José Gonçalves was born in the state of Sao Paolo, Brazil, in 1963. He precociously showed interest in drawing. His family was amazed at the captivating small details he put in his drawings. They enthusiastically supported him to start art lessons in his early childhood. He kept drawing and painting as a hobby until he finished his university courses.
After graduating with a degree in Architecture in 1987, he moved to a small flat which seemed to be colorless to him. In order to brighten it up he started painting. He has been exhibiting ever since.
He received his first award in 1991 in Banco do Estado do Parana Art Salon in which he won the first prize. His paintings reflect his ordinary day-to-day life as well as his personality. As a result, his themes are pleasant and the canvas is never the limit. The spontaneity of José’s brush is the meaning of his work. Exhaustive explanations will not reflect it. “I’m sure simplicity is the best way to be taken into the complex world or Art” says José.
Everything around can inspire him whether it is friends, breakfast, flowers, or the place where he lives. His paintings are a result of his sensitivity, liveliness, cordiality and enthusiasm for life.
